Growth Industries

Helping to connect the dots between industry and the community is the Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida’s Space Coast, an organization that is responsible for attracting new business and investment, and encouraging the expansion of existing industries throughout the Space Coast.

In recent years, the business community has literally taken off. Taking flight across our aviation cluster in the southern end of the county and lifting off to other worlds from the north part of the region. Our modes of available transportation are anything but ordinary. So too are the corporations that have made an investment in Brevard County’s business community.

A one of a kind economic success story in the wake of a Shuttle program shutdown, here’s some of the best and brightest parts of our business community:

  • Major defense contractor, Northrop Grumman, committed to the Space Coast in a big way – to the tune of 1,800 potential jobs with a capital investment of $500 million over the coming years. This was the largest economic development deal in the United States in 2014 in terms of capital investment and jobs.
  • A world leader in corporate aircraft, Brazilian-based Embraer considers Brevard County as “the center of gravity” for its business jets, having just invested in a fourth facility at Melbourne International Airport. Embraer already counts well-known companies like Harris Corporation, General Electric, and DRS as neighbors.
  • On the heels of a decade’s long manned Shuttle program, the focus has shifted to commercial space and Brevard County will continue to serve as the backdrop to a number of historic launches. Like Lockheed Martin’s Orion space vehicle and Boeing’s X-37B orbital vehicle. The next era of space starts here.
  • Brevard County is home to the highest concentration of engineers anywhere in the Country. The brightest minds call us home, and it’s here that the world’s largest companies come to find and utilize this talent.

If being on the cutting edge of the next big thing is where you live, the Space Coast has the talent, infrastructure, experience and major corporate players to take you there. It’s in our DNA.

Thinking of Doing Business in Brevard County? You Should. Here’s Why:

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida's Space Coast lists the following as some of the benefits of Brevard County’s pro-business environment:

  • A highly educated, skilled workforce in a “right to work” state
  • Low operating costs and a competitive, stable tax structure
  • The world’s only quintamodal transportation hub, with land, air, sea, rail and space transportation
  • A research and development environment bolstered by nine colleges and universities
  • K-12 education that serves as a model of innovation and excellence in an “A”-grade district
  • The presence of a foreign trade zone
  • Creative, meaningful proposals and incentives to serve the needs of qualifying businesses

Representing a public and private sector research park containing business, government, and academic partners, it is designed to be responsive to social and economic development needs supporting Brevard County.
